Dear Patients and Colleagues,

It is with mixed emotion that I write to you today to announce that I am making plans to retire, effective November 1st of this year. I have been in practice since 1970 so many of you have become good friends and that is why this is such a difficult decision. Although I am otherwise in good health, I am age 69 and my back is giving out, so after more than 37 years in practice I feel this is the appropriate time for me to retire. I do look forward to the opportunities retirement will bring me, although it still saddens me to be leaving clinical practice and the many personal and professional relationships that I have developed over my career.

As most of you know, after more than 35 years at Good Samaritan Hospital, I merged my practice with that of the East West Eye Institute. This has proven to be a wonderful arrangement for me, my patients and the East West Eye Institute as well. It has also allowed me to maintain my affiliation with Good Samaritan Hospital. During this time I have been able to devote more of my attention to actual patient care and at the same time utilize the great facilities, the high technology resources, and impressive administrative support.

Because of the outstanding relationship I have with my colleagues at the East West Eye Institute, I am comforted in knowing that my loyal patients will continue to receive excellent care with them in my absence. Furthermore, with offices in Downtown, West LA, Torrance, and Gardena, one can choose to continue to receive care at a location that may be more convenient to your home or workplace, without the need to transfer medical records to another practice.

While I understand many patients are reluctant to change doctors after having grown accustomed to one practitioner for so long, I am urging all of my patients to meet with my trusted colleague and friend, Dr. Nicholas P. Marsico in my absence. He is a graduate of the Boston University residency program in Ophthalmology, and is fellowship trained in anterior segment and refractive surgery and has been practicing Ophthalmology for over 10 years. Feel free to peruse his background and Curriculum Vitae and that of all of the members of East West Eye Institute on our website, www.EastWestEye.com. Dr. Marsico and I have worked closely together now for the past 3 years, and as many of you know, he has been performing surgery for my patients with great results since I have retired from this aspect of my practice last summer. He and the other doctors of the East West Eye Institute, namely Fred Kurata and Jean Katow, will hold and maintain your medical records, and I can assure you they will work hard to provide you with the level of care you have come to expect from me.

The process of transitioning my care to Dr. Marsico and the other doctors at East West Eye Institute is currently underway and I am happy to report the transition is progressing smoothly. I can assure you that every effort will be made by the East West Eye Institute and me to accommodate your individual needs during this transition period.

I want to express my deepest appreciation for the privilege of serving as your ophthalmologist and I want to thank you for helping to provide me with a fulfilling career.

Very Truly Yours,
Your Ophthalmologist and Friend
