Advanced Diagnostic Technology At the East West Eye Institute, we employ some of the most advanced technology available to assess the health of your retina and evaluate for any retinal disease. Digital Fluorescein Angiography - this is used to assess the retinal circulation. In this procedure, a vegetable dye is injected into the veins of the arm and allowed to circulate throughout the body. As the dye passes through the eye, special digital photographs are taken which provide detailed information about the adequacy of the retinal circulation. Digital Photography – the doctors of the East West Eye Institute utilize advanced digital photography to record examination findings in patients with glaucoma, diabetes and various retinal disorders. These photos are preserved in our computer database as well as in the medical record for easy access and comparison over time. Macular Ocular Coherence Tomography (macular OCT) – Macular OCT is a powerful painless diagnostic device that is used to document microscopic changes in the retina that are otherwise difficult or impossible to see with standard examination equipment. These changes, however small, can at times significantly affect one’s level of vision and their presence or absence can influence one’s treatment options. The macular OCT is revolutionizing how we assess patients with disorders such as diabetic retinopathy, macular edema, macular degeneration, and epiretinal membrane. |
