Argon Laser – At the East West Eye Institute our Eye MD’s utilize advanced argon laser technology to treat a vast array of retinal conditions from diabetic retinopathy, and retinal tears to macular edema and retinal vascular occlusions.  You can be sure that the doctors of the East West Eye Institute have performed countless laser procedures and have helped thousands of patients preserve their sight utilizing this amazing technology.

Bevacizumab (AVASTIN®) – originally introduced and now FDA approved as a treatment for colorectal cancer, Avastin is a monoclonal antibody that attaches to a substance known as VEGF.  VEGF is produced in many disease states including many that occur in the eye, and it stimulates the formation of new and often abnormal blood vessel growth.  When VEGF is bound by Avastin it cannot stimulate the new vessel growth.  The disease process is therefore often slowed or even halted.  Avastin has been found to be very effective in treating various ocular conditions associated with increased levels of VEGF.  These include macular degeneration, macular edema, diabetic retinopathy and vascular occlusions. 

Much research is currently underway to determine the efficacy of Avastin in treating these ocular disorders.  Preliminary results are very encouraging and Avastin is likely to become the treatment of choice for many of these challenging ocular conditions.  The doctors of the East West Eye Institute are proud to offer this exciting new treatment option to our patients especially in those circumstances where, until now, no good treatment options were available.
