Fred Kurata, M.D., M.S. is a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in glaucoma, as well as cataracts, and refractive surgery. He attended the University of Hawaii, where he attained his Medical Degree as well as his Masters in Physiology. At the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Kurata completed his residency in pathology and ophthalmology as well as his fellowship in glaucoma. He has been practicing for over 20 years and is associated with such societies as the American Medical Association, the American Glaucoma Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, ARVO, and the Los Angeles County Medical Association.

Jean Katow, M.D.Jean P. Katow, M.D.

Jean Katow, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in general ophthalmology, ophthalmic plastics, and reconstructive surgery. She obtained her Bachelors degree at the University of California, Los Angeles and subsequently attended the University of California, Davis for her Medical Degree. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at the University of Louisville and her fellowship in ophthalmic plastics at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Katow has been practicing for nearly 20 years and is involved in humanitarian missions to foreign countries in need of medical care. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the California Association of Ophthalmology, and the Los Angeles Ophthalmological Society.

Nicholas Marsico, M.D.

Nicholas P. Marsico, M.D.

Nicholas Marsico, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in refractive surgery and the treatment of corneal diseases. He also practices general ophthalmology as well, including the treatment of cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic eye disease. Dr. Marsico received his undergraduate education at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors. He recieved his M.D. degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine. After completing his ophthalmology residency at Boston University he went on to complete a fellowship in Corneal / External Diseases and Refractive Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Institute. After practicing in such places as Ohio and North Carolina, Dr. Marsico joined the East West Eye Institute in July of 2004.He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the California Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Los Angeles Society of Ophthalmology.

Albert Davis, M.D.Albert I. Davis, M.D.

Albert Davis, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in general ophthalmology, cataracts as well as refractive surgery. He attended Queens College for his undergraduate education and earned his Medical Degree at Howard University College of Medicine. His residency was completed at Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA and at the Long Beach Veterans Administration. Dr. Davis served as a surgeon in the United States Public Health Service. He has been practicing for almost 30 years and during this tenure, he has served as a clinical instructor at the UCLA Medical School, a consulting physician at the Veterans Hospital in Long Beach, as well as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at UC Irvine. Dr. Davis is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as a Fellow of the American College Surgeons.

Joseph K. Davidson, M.D., F.R.C.S.C., F.A.C.S. is a board certified ophthalmologist and ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeon. He is one of the most highly trained and credentialed surgeons in North America for cosmetic and non-cosmetic surgery of the eyes and upper face. He has completed three subspecialty fellowships (medicine’s highest form of formal education). He is board certified in both the United States and Canada. And he has distinguished himself at several of North America’s most prestigious institutions, including Harvard University, Georgetown University, McGill University, and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. Dr. Davidson takes pride in his innovative techniques and excellent results for both cosmetic and non-cosmetic surgery of the eyelids, eye sockets and tear drains. Charles L. Janes, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in general ophthalmology and cataracts. Dr. Janes received his Bachelors Degree at Occidental College and attended the University of Southern California Medical School for his Medical Degree. Soon thereafter, Dr. Janes completed his residency at the University of Texas at San Antonio. For over 30 years, Dr. Janes has served the Southern California community at his office inside the Hospital of the Good Samaritan. In 2003, Dr. Janes joined the East West Eye Institute where he continues to provide quality care to his patients. Dr. Janes is active at the USC Research Study Club as well as with several other societies.

Steven Kurata, O.D.Steven K. Kurata, O.D.

Steven Kurata, O.D. is an optometrist who received his education at the Southern California College of Optometry. He specializes in glasses and contact lens exams, and has a particular interest in complex contact lens fittings such as those needed in patients with keratoconus and after corneal transplant surgery. He has been practicing for over 33 years and has been associated with such organizations as the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, the Los Angeles County Optometric Association, the Japanese American Optometric Society, as well as holding the position of President for the Asian American Optometric Society. He is currently on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees for the Southern California College of Optometry.

Lynn Kurata, O.D.Lynn W. Kurata, O.D., F.A.A.O

Lynn Watt Kurata, O.D. is an optometrist who completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at Seattle University, and went on to attain a master’s degree in Physiology at the University of Hawaii. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, with special training in low vision rehabilitation and primary eye care. She has been practicing for over 15 years, and was previously associated with several optometric and ophthalmologic practices. Along with routine eye exams and contact lens fittings, she specializes in low vision services for partially sighted people. She is a current member of the American Academy of Optometry, American Optometric Association, Los Angeles County Optometric Society, and formerly served as President of the Asian American Optometric Society. She is actively involved in community service at her church, enjoys yoga/meditation as well as improving her Chinese written and spoken language skills.

Eric K. Miyamoto, O.D. is an optometrist that practices primary care in Optometry to include routine eye examinations, contact lens fittings as well as prescribing eyeglasses. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of California at Irvine and his Doctor of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry. He has been practicing for over 22 years. Dr. Miyamoto is fluent in Portuguese, Japanese and adequate in Spanish. He is excellent in verbal English communication. Dr. Miyamoto has been a volunteer for the Optometric Service for Humanity and was nominated to the "Outstanding Young Men of America."

Keiko Kitamura, O.D.Keiko Kitamura O.D.

Keiko Kitamura O.D. completed her undergraduate degree in psychobiology at UCLA and went on to study to become an optometrist at the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, CA. She received her Doctor of Optometry in May 2006 after completing a year of internships in Downtown LA, Santa Monica, and Japan. During that year, she was trained in various areas of optometry such as disease, contact lenses, and low vision. She is able to perform contact lens fittings as well as diagnosing and treating eye diseases.

During her free time, Dr. Kitamura likes spending time with friends and family including her dog Pudding, going shopping, and watching her favorite shows such as Grey's Anatomy on tv. She also loves to try new things to eat and cook--she is a fan of the Food Network. One day she would like to travel across the country and travel all around the world to experience the cuisine in different parts of the world

James MasunagaJames Masunaga Administrator

James Masunaga Administrator James Masunaga is a Southern California native born and raised in the city of Gardena. He is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles where he studied Political Science and Business Administration. In 1997, James joined the East West Eye Institute and is currently involved in all business aspects of the company such as money management, billing, contracting, property / practice acquisition, and construction. Working behind the scenes at the company, James has been instrumental in the acquisition of several practices as well as helping to run a non-profit organization called the Kenko Foundation.  James is currently in the process of obtaining his real estate license and he also plans to go back to get his MBA in the near future. He is a member of The Academy Network, which is an association for executives in the field of ophthalmology. When he has time, he works with community service groups such as the Little Tokyo Community Council and the Little Tokyo Business Association.

 

Tiffany Hattori

Tiffany Hattori Administrator

Tiffany Hattori has been an associate of East West Eye Institute for over 10 years. She is a graduate of CSULA. Ms. Hattori is the Chief Operating Officer and the Director of Human Resources. Ms. Hattori played an integral role in expanding the size of what now is one of the most successful ophthalmology practices on the west coast. Ms. Hattori is an active member of the community in providing cultural awareness, opportunities and education.

 

Robert Oishi

Robert Oishi Head Optician

As the head of the optical department for the East West Eye Institute, Robert’s responsibilities include inventory management and accounting for all of the East West Eye Institute dispensaries. In addition, he is involved in direct patient care with glasses fittings and adjustments and oversees the technicians in the on site optical laboratory. Robert has been an optician for 20 years. He is married with one daughter and enjoys coaching his daughters basketball team. He also enjoys other sporting activities especially golf, basketball, football, tennis, bowling and fishing. He is a graduate of Palisades high and attended College at Cal State LA. When not involved in sporting activites, Robert enjoys simply hanging out with family and friends.

 

Ryan ImagiireRyan Imagiire Technician and Daily Operations

Ryan Imagiire is the head ophthalmic technician for the East West Eye Institute. In addition to his responsibilities as an ophthalmic technician, his is actively involved with human resources and is in charge of equipment maintenance for all East West Eye Institute offices.

 

Trina Aguilar

Trina Aguilar Technician

Trina Aguilar is co-head ophthalmic technician for the East West Eye Institute. She also is in charge of surgical scheduling as well as management of daily clinical operations.

 

Lily Mac, O.D.

Lily Mac, O.D. is an optometrist who completed her undergraduate degree in biology at UCLA and continued her studies to become an optometrist graduating from Southern California College of Optometry. As a first generation college graduate, she enjoys working with the diverse ethnicity of patients in the area and is able to communicate to patients in English, Cantonese, some Mandarin, and some Spanish. As an intern at the Optometric Center of Los Angeles, she served for the disadvantaged community, provided care at the Center for the Partially Sighted for low vision care, and at the Veteran's Hospital. After graduating in 2008, she practiced at a private optometry practice in the San Gabriel Valley, providing primary eye care, contact lenses, and glasses to a predominantly Chinese patient population. She is currently involved in eye allergy studies as an investigating optometrist.
