Wavefront Technology

The Custom LASIK surgeons at the East West Eye Institute utilize the latest technology such as the VISX S4 excimer laser with advanced eyetracking capability and CustomVue wavefront technology. All are Board certified ophthalmologists with years of experience performing lasik and other refractive surgical procedures. We welcome you to a free lasik evaluation to determine if you indeed are a candidate.

What is the difference between Standard or Conventional Lasik and Custom Wavefront Lasik?

With standard or conventional lasik, one’s eyeglass prescription is manually entered into the excimer laser. This information is then used to guide the laser treatment. For years, this method of vision correction proved satisfactory, however, despite otherwise excellent outcomes, some patients had side effects such as glare, halos, or poor night vision. With the advent of CustomVue Wavefront technology, the incidence of these unwanted side effects has been greatly reduced. This technology maps aberrations in one’s visual system that are unique to their own eye. In other words, it is like taking one’s unique fingerprint of their eye. The laser then corrects these aberrations and the result is an unparalleled outcome, with many patients seeing even better than they did with glasses or contact lenses. Moreover, as mentioned previously, untoward side effects such as glare, halos and decreased night vision are greatly reduced.
